| PCCP was formed by the merger in 1952 of the Philadelphia Committee on Public Affairs ( PCPA) and the City Policy Committee. PCPA traces its roots to the City Club, which was formed in 1905. The City Policy Committee was formed in 1940 by Walter Philips, with the a unique philosophy: " No important change is accomplished in city, state or national affairs except through the action of a group of people who have not only the understanding of the problems, but also understanding of each other and confidence in one another." The combined group, the Philadelphia Committee on City Policy, became a significant force in city government. PCCP was the force behind the movement to change the City Charter and the creation of the City Planning Commission. PCCP members continue to play an active role in the affairs of the city, region and country. PCCP has an eight person Board of Directors elected each May. The board consists of five officers and at three at-large members. Any individual member can run for a seat on the board by notifying the Nominating Committee. |
